  • The Miles Scholarship is a program of Montopolis Friendship Community Center and is named in honor of the late Velma and Bob Miles. Mr. Miles was Austin’s Chief of Police for many years. He and Mrs. Miles helped to create the Montopolis Friendship Community Center more than 60 years ago.
  • Miles Scholarships are made possible by contributions from a variety of sources – United Methodist Churches, UMW units and individual donors. The scholarships are awarded to high school students who live in the Montopolis neighborhood.
  • The students are selected based on need and recommendations from such individuals as teachers, counselors, employers and pastors. In general, a Miles Scholarship student is the first person in his or her family to attend college, works part time, and was active in school activities, community projects, and/or sports and continues that practice in college.
  • On behalf of the students and the members of the Miles Scholarship Committee, Anne Ader, Lib Harris, Martha Renfroe, and Alberta Shelton, thank you for helping this wonderful program to fulfill its promise.

Contributions may be made to Montopolis Friendship Community Center,
